When i start my car the first time, and it dies, but i start it again and it runs fine?

is the gap in the spark plugs or the timing thrown off? its been 3500 miles since my last oil change and im trying to get it changed but every time i fix one thing, two things break. i already paid 70 bucks for 2 high and 2 low beam headlights. i need a full tuneup ( 60's carb car) not just %26quot;spark plugs%26quot;..... plus i think the u joints are shot, but with a little life left. when i take it up to a local oil lube, how much can you expect me to pay?

p.s. i need new hood hinges installed and the two operating rods reattached that allow the door handles to open the door for the driver and passenger side.i also need the weatherstrip replaced on the doors and vent windows for the driver and passenger. how much to walk out of a body shop with the work done?

'62 galaxie folks, well worth the money spent to keep her running perfect! When i start my car the first time, and it dies, but i start it again and it runs fine?
It could be your choke that is gummed up a bit. Have it serviced at the time of the oil change.

Hood hinges go to a local junk yard to see if they have set there. Some junk yard specialize in older cars. Also check craigslist.com to see if one is there. Good luck in the hunt. When i start my car the first time, and it dies, but i start it again and it runs fine?
Check to see if you're fuel is draining out of the carb. Perhaps the fuel is draining out of the bowls while it sits, and your first start runs off of the remaining fuel, followed by the restart because the fuel bowls are refilled from the first, short idle. You are likely due for a little carb rebuild - check the float level, and see if you get a few good squirts out of the carb when you manually pump the linkage - if it squirts a few times, then stops, you know somethings amiss.

U joints aren't that expensive - 200 bucks, maybe? I'm not sure since I'm a chevy guy, but they come out quick and install fairly quick as well.

Why don't you do the door rods and such? The mechanicals in the door are very simple and the weatherstripping is easy enough for my wife to do it! Actually, I'd even let her tackle the carb rebuild, since it's only a matter of remembering what links into what as you disassemble, and the instructions on the rebuild kits are generally great.
